The Oregon League of Conservation Voters is seeking a dynamic individual who is interested in developing communication, organizing, and leadership skills as a Primary Campaign Organizing Fellow.
About OLCV: The Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV) is the political voice of Oregon's environmental community. OLCV is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that -- along with its sister organizations the OLCV Education Fund and the OLCV PAC-- passes laws to protect our natural legacy, elects pro-environment candidates, and holds our elected officials accountable. OLCV is committed to creating a culture of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in our organization and outward.
We achieve these goals by organizing and engaging people in the political process through work on campaigns and communication with local legislators. We work closely with policy leaders, activists, and partner organizations to urge state lawmakers to pass progressive climate policies. OLCV spearheads the Oregon Conservation Network (OCN), a coalition of over 40 state and local environmental groups, and has built a reputation as one of the leading environmental advocacy organizations in the state.
Timeline and Time Commitment:
March 25th through May 31st (10 weeks)
Part-time, flexible hours, with fluctuating ~8-12 hours per week required. A minimum total of 100 hours, or minimum number of hours required by College/University* to earn credit (whichever is more).
Some evening and weekend work will be required for campaigns.
Primary Fellowship Responsibilities:
Participate in campaign phone banking (phone calls) and canvasses (door-knocking) to persuade voters and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) on behalf of OLCV-endorsed candidates
Volunteer recruitment and coordination for campaign events, such as canvasses, phone banks, candidate forums, etc.
Assist in the organizing of phone banks and canvases for OLCV’s priority races
Attended weekly OLCV organizer meetings, intern meetings, and other team meetings as needed
Database tracking and processing
In addition to your listed responsibilities, you are welcome and encouraged to participate at some level in organizational priorities including attending staff and staff equity meetings, monthly Oregon Conservation Network meetings, bimonthly Central Oregon Conservation Network meetings.

Shares OLCV’s values around conservation, environmental justice, equity, and climate action.
Has an interest in Oregon politics, the environment, and community engagement for positive and progressive change.
Is comfortable talking with new people over the phone and in person.
Has strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Is reliable, dependable, and accountable.
Qualities we appreciate, but are not required:
Has experience volunteering/working with any kind of issue or candidate campaign
Knowledge of Oregon environmental issues
Is comfortable using computers, Zoom, Google Suite, spreadsheets, learning databases, and using mobile apps; or has an open willingness to learn new programs.
*Enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year academic institution is not required. OLCV’s College Fellowship Program is designed for individuals with little to no work experience who are interested in exploring a career in organizing.
Location: Flexible/on campus, but must be based in Oregon. During the COVID-19 pandemic, fellows can work remotely or in the office (if vaccinated), with more in-person work when safe to do so.
Compensation: This is an unpaid, volunteer position. College credit is available, if applicable. Fellows will gain direct experience working with seasoned and knowledgeable political and environmental professionals at one of Oregon’s leading conservation organizations. Fellows will have the opportunity to network at political campaign events and gain valuable communication and political experience. Additionally, letters of recommendation may also be provided upon request. Opportunities for full-time employment at OLCV do occasionally occur, and fellows are eligible to apply.
