Duration: Full Time

Compensation: $60,000-70,000 per year depending on experience; generous and progressive benefits including medical and dental care 100% of premiums paid by Unite Oregon, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off; technology reimbursement; 4 hours personal time off/week, $300 annual FSA contribution, 2.5% 401K contribution after 6 months

Position Description:

Position Description: Unite Oregon is seeking an experienced, culturally responsive Climate Resilience and Environmental Justice (CREJ) Manager who will be responsible to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan focused on climate resilience and environmental justice. This includes supporting policy development in federal, state, and local governments, and local administrative issues, leadership development, organizing, community development and civic engagement work. Work with frontline community leaders to develop and build people power for a healthier and more just Oregon. This position will report to the Community Development Director and will work in close collaboration with the organization’s Policy team and other staff.


Organizational Climate Strategy

  • Work with the Climate Resilience and Environmental Justice team and other staff to help develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan focused on climate and environmental justice;

  • Support the organization’s climate justice legislative advocacy

  • Support the Policy Department on the long-term legislative and policy agenda that reduces the impact of climate change

  • Ensure that policies are community-led, equitable, and bringing social and economic opportunities to communities that have not had access in the past

Community and Campaign Engagement

  • Work with staff and partners to develop campaigns to support climate policy proposals including communications, grassroots organizing and political strategy

  • Build deep relationships with community leaders and establish a state-wide climate leadership committee, coalition partners, and other stakeholders

  • Community organizing workshops and leadership development: Working side by side with communities, leading workshops on community organizing skills and leadership development sessions with community leaders

General Administration

  • Participates in the hiring and training of staff

  • Oversees and manages grant budgets

  • Organizes and oversees the work of climate team members

  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive

  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with organizational policy


Candidates must have at least 3-5 years of related work experience, such as community organizing, base-building, campaign coordination, environmental advocacy, and/or coalition building. Ideally, candidates should have a driver’s license and a car that they are willing and able to drive for work. Candidates must exercise excellent judgment and discretion and have the ability to oversee significant projects. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience organizing in multi-racial, multi-generational, and cross-class settings, has strategic thinking and effective facilitation skills, and is passionate about community organizing, movement building, and racial, economic and environmental justice.
